Asra Nomani was raised in Morgantown, WV and went to Morgantown High School. She grew to be a reporter for the Wall St. Journal. She was the last westerner to see Danny Pearl alive, along with his wife. After returning to the United States and Morgantown she went to visit the new Mosque in Morgantown where her father was on the executive board. Her writing describes her reception by University professors and Morgantown professionals, all men, all members of the leadership of the new Mosque.
